With apologies to the reader for taking their time by describing the faults of existing computer systems, it is difficult to set goals without highlighting the problems that need to be resolved. Now that most areas requiring improvement have been outlined, it is time to demonstrate that there are many projects that are trying to improve the situation. The potentially positive experience of transforming the industry will also be described.
Most of the problems discussed above are the result of poor, if any, software organization inside the computer. A more logical and coherent system based on preliminary planning, would resolve many if not all of them. The chapters below describe the areas where such an approach has improved the situation.
